The Rose of Nax

The Balcon de Nax shelters in some gypsum rocks near the village, a rare rosehip, attractive by its bright yellow roses which is called "La Rose de Nax".

La Rose de Nax remained unnoticed until 1888 when a professor of botany M. Wolf observed it. Later Mr. Biner, cantonal archivist, had the chance to rediscover the "Rose of Nax". He made the Rose of Nax known and loved.

Today the Rose of Nax is the pride of the inhabitants of the village and, between June and July, you can observe the Rose of Nax, climbing along the houses or blooming in the gardens.

This flower has given rise to an event called the Rose Festival. Anyone with the name Rose, Rose-Marie, Rose-Anne, Rosly... can take part in a competition and win a pendant of the Rose of Nax. The winner will have to read the oath of the roses and stick to it for one year.
