The Belvédère Via Ferrata in the Nax Region in brief
The Story so far... The Nax via Ferrata, located in the commune of Mont-Noble, 20 minutes from Sion, opened in 2000. It is located on the west face of the Nax rock in the locality of the Belvédère and is accessible to all. Both fun and aerial, it happily caters to an audience of mountain enthusiasts and thrill-seeking summer visitors. It requires only simple techniques, with handling reduced to a minimum. From its creation, it was immediately used by many climbing enthusiasts who, for the most part, fell in love with the implementation of this Via Ferrata. With a little luck, you will be able to observe the peregrine falcon. This high-flying hunter also appreciates the panorama on offer, seeing as he made his nest on the North face of the Nax peak. A rare species that deserves protection: there are around twenty pairs of peregrine falcons in the Valais region. Finally, from the Via Ferrata, you will be ideally placed to observe the peculiar sleeping Naxard, who according to legend gave its name to the village of Nax ...

Camping/cravaning is not allowed at the foot of the via ferrata. The Alp Safari camping site is available.
MAINTENANCE OF THE VIA FERRATA
Every year, the Via Ferrata du Belvédère is serviced in early spring. It is closed for two weeks for maintenance work. The closure dates are announced in due course.
Restoration and safety work is carried out.
Photo monitoring of rock movement is also in place.

Via Ferrata Set Rental
The equipment (backpack, via ferrata lanyard, helmet and harness) required for the Via Ferrata is available for rent from the Nax Région Tourist Office, located in the village of Nax. Please check our opening hours directly on our website.
We also have junior Via Ferrata sets available, subject to availability (the same equipment but with a smaller harness). We recommend the Via Ferrata for children aged 11 and over. For children weighing less than 40 kg and measuring less than 150 cm in height, it is strongly recommended to use an additional rope to ensure their safety.
To ensure that the sets are available, we strongly recommend booking them in advance.
Via Ferrata sets can only be collected during the opening hours of our Tourist Office. For returns outside opening hours, lockers are available outside the office.
Via Ferrata Set Prices
The Via Ferrata sets include: backpack, via ferrata lanyard, helmet and harness.
Hiking shoes or good trainers are strongly recommended.
During the summer months, climbing gloves are recommended to protect your hands from the heat of the metal rungs (not included in our sets).
Via Ferrata sets are available for rent at CHF 25.– per person and CHF 21.– per person for groups of 10 or more.
To ensure the availability of the sets, we strongly recommend booking them in advance with the Nax Région Tourist Office.
A deposit of CHF 50.– or a copy of your credit card is required in case of damage to the equipment.
Duration and elevation of the Via Ferrata
The Nax Via Ferrata is open all year round and can also be climbed in winter when there is no snow. The only period during which the Nax Via Ferrata may be closed is in spring or towards the end of winter, for approximately two weeks, while safety inspections and maintenance work are carried out. The closure dates are announced in due course.
The ascent – climbing the Via Ferrata – takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. You should also allow around 30 to 40 minutes for the descent on foot along the hiking trail.
The Nax Via Ferrata is considered one of the most accessible Via Ferratas in Valais. It is ideal for people who have never tried a Via Ferrata or climbing before. The Via Ferrata has an elevation gain of 220 metres.
Three access points to the Via Ferrata
Park at the foot of the Via Ferrata
You can park at the foot of the Via Ferrata. Climb up, then descend on foot along the path to get back to your car. Bramois-Nax road with car park (1000m). Direct access to the climbing route.
Park at the top of Via Ferrata
It is possible to park at the top of the Via Ferrata. First, walk down the trail, then climb back up via the Via Ferrata to return to the car park. The car park is located at the entrance to the village at an altitude of 1,300 m. From the Panorama des Jausses, follow the marked trail down alongside the Via Ferrata towards its starting point. Approach on foot: approximately 40 minutes.
Park at the Alp Safari Campsite
From the Alp Safari Campsite Access on foot via a marked path. Approach on foot about 30 minutes of descent to reach the foot of the Via Ferrata and then climb. At the end of the Via Ferrata climb, a short walk downhill (10min) will return you to the car park.
