The Belvédère triangulation point

In 1994, Nax erected a ” monument “ to mark the 160th anniversary of Anton Berchtold’s work being added to that of General Guillaume-Henri Dufour’s, who was responsible for mapping the whole of Switzerland.

The first sheet of the national Dufour map, published in 1845, was established thanks to the measurements of Canon Berchtold. The monument in question is a triangulation point set at the origin of these measurements, on the Nax rock. This can be seen at the Jausses panorama.
