The Mase's Mill
The last mill in Mase ceased to operate around 1958. In 1989, the Mase Development Society, anxious to preserve a precious witness to a not so distant past, took the first steps towards its restoration. It seems that in the last century no less than four mills were still in operation, located next to each other on the banks of the Manna torrent. Between 1994 and 1996, the commune undertook the construction of the mill located in the heart of the village. The Mase Mill was inaugurated in July 1996.
The originality of this mill lies in the use of a horizontal paddle wheel, which is apparently unique in the Valais.

The terraced fields and the foundations of the old granaries (chesal) bear witness to the importance of the food chain at the time: wheat, flour, bread. To revive the mill, a wheat and bread brotherhood was formed in 1997. The mill, owned by the Bourgeoisie, is located on the route du Moulin, in the centre of the village.
The Mase wheat and bread brotherhood now uses the Mase mill for the traditional baking of rye bread.
