Chiesso

The mountain pasture of Gauthier "Chiesso" extending over 280ha is divided into two groups of buildings

In the Valais, mountain pastures are generally shared between a certain number of users whose holdings are transferred and inherited. In Nax, the bourgeoisie owned the Gauthier mountain pasture before 1328. This 280-hectare pasture is subdivided into two sets of buildings: The Poyso, 1758m and the Chiesso, 2068m.

Of the old buildings, only the cheese cellar and the cheese dairy remain. The Chiesso. In the summer, cheese was made there until 2001. From that year onwards, the cheese dairy was restored and preserved as heritage property.
